Challenge:
After drilling an exploration well, a client in Western Australia was required to recover the Sub Sea Wellhead (20”x36” heavy wall) in 1040m of water on a floating drilling vessel.
The Clients preference was to cut and pull in a single trip without recovering the nominal seal bore protector.
Solution:
CCI designed a custom short catch grapple to facilitate the single trip wellhead recovery eliminating a trip for the nominal seal bore protector.
Results:
Wellhead was successfully engaged and recovered in a single trip. Total cut time to cut both casing strings and pull wellhead free was 3.5 hrs.
Solution provided significant cost saving to client due to elimination of dedicated NSBP recovery trip and reduced cutting time during well-head recovery.
